US Company
EIN Application for a Foreign-Owned US LLC
A US LLC without an EIN is a folder of papers. Banks, Stripe, Amazon, and the IRS all want the number and the confirmation letter. Non-residents cannot use the IRS online portal. We prepare Form SS-4 and file it as your third-party designee.
What an EIN is for
An Employer Identification Number is the IRS identifier for the company. You use it on information returns, bank applications, and processor onboarding. It is not a visa, not a Social Security Number, and not permission to work in the United States. Scriplit’s formation package includes the SS-4 filing. This page is for founders who want that step explained — or who formed elsewhere and still need the letter.
Why the online portal is closed to most foreign owners
The IRS online EIN assistant asks for an SSN or ITIN for the responsible party. A foreign owner who has neither files Form SS-4 by fax or mail. That is slower. It is also the lawful path. We do not sell “same-day online EINs” for people the portal will reject.
Who this is for
New LLC, no number yet
You just received Articles of Organization and need the EIN before anyone will open a bank account.
Formed with another filer
The company exists. The EIN was never finished, or you only have a verbal number and no CP 575 or 147C letter.
Lost the letter
A bank asked for the confirmation letter and the PDF is gone. We can help you request a replacement 147C once we see the file.
No SSN and no ITIN
That is normal for a first-time foreign owner. The EIN does not wait on an ITIN.
What you get
Form SS-4 prepared
Responsible party, foreign address, and “Foreign” where the SSN would go — filled so the unit can process it.
Third-party designee
We file as your designee so you are not guessing the fax cover or the mail address.
The letter, not a rumor
Banks want CP 575 or 147C. A number typed in a chat is not enough.
Tied to formation
If we formed the LLC, the EIN is already in the $349 package plus the state fee. See Pricing.
How the process works
-
1
Confirm the entity
We match the legal name, state, and formation date to the Articles. A mismatch is why SS-4s bounce.
-
2
Name the responsible party
A real person who controls the company. Not a nominee we invent.
-
3
File Form SS-4
Fax or mail. Foreign owners should expect weeks, not a same-day portal.
-
4
Deliver the letter
You receive the IRS confirmation. Keep the PDF. Every later application will ask for it.
What we need from you
- Stamped Articles of Organization or Certificate of Formation.
- Passport bio page for the responsible party.
- A foreign residential address we can put on the form.
- A way to appoint Scriplit as third-party designee.
Read this before you start
- An EIN is not US tax residency and not a work permit.
- Processing time is set by the IRS, not by us. We will not promise a date the unit does not control.
- You still need yearly filings after the number arrives. Start with Form 5472 if you are a foreign-owned single-member LLC.
Common mistakes
Using someone else’s SSN on SS-4
Do not borrow a friend’s number to force the online portal. That is a false statement on an IRS form.
Applying before the state stamp
The EIN unit wants an entity that exists. File Articles first.
Losing the only copy of the letter
Store the PDF. Replacements take their own IRS request.
Thinking the EIN files your taxes
The number identifies the company. Form 5472 and any income return are separate jobs.
FAQ
Scriplit LLC is a Wyoming company that helps non-residents form US LLCs and prepare US information and tax filings. We are not a CPA firm or a law firm. This page is general information, not advice for your facts. Home-country tax, treaties, and your actual activity can change the result.

Formation packages include the EIN filing. If the LLC already exists, send the Articles and we will quote the SS-4 work alone.
