Cookie Policy

Rather than describing cookies in the abstract, this page lists every single one this website can set, who provides it, what it does and how long it lasts. Nothing non-essential loads until you say yes.

1. What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. It lets the site remember things between pages and between visits — that you dismissed a banner, for example.

This Policy also covers similar technologies that do comparable jobs: local storage and session storage, which hold data in your browser; pixels and web beacons, tiny invisible images that record that something loaded; and scripts loaded from third-party servers. We refer to all of them as "cookies" here for simplicity.

This Policy sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with personal data generally.

2. Our Consent Approach

Non-essential cookies are blocked until you consent. When you first visit, nothing loads except the cookies strictly required for the site to work. Analytics and live chat stay switched off until you actively choose to allow them.

Rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting. Our banner gives "Accept all" and "Reject all" equal prominence. There is no pre-ticked box, no hidden decline, and no nagging if you say no.

You can change your mind whenever you like using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.

If you take no action, we treat that as no consent and load nothing beyond the strictly necessary. Continuing to scroll or browse is not consent, and we do not pretend it is.

3. The Categories We Use

3.1 Strictly necessary Always on

Required for the website to function and to remember your privacy choices. These are exempt from the consent requirement under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, because without them the service you asked for cannot be provided. Ironically, one of them exists purely to remember that you said no to the others.

3.2 Functionality Consent required

Enable optional features, principally our live chat widget. If you decline, the site works normally but live chat will not appear — you can still reach us by phone, email or WhatsApp.

3.3 Analytics Consent required

Help us understand which pages people find useful and where the site is confusing. Aggregate only; we do not use analytics to identify individuals or build profiles.

3.4 Advertising and targeting Not used

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on this website. No retargeting pixels, no advertising networks, no behavioural profiling, and no data sold or shared with advertisers. If that ever changes we will update this Policy and ask for your consent before setting a single one.

4. Every Cookie We Set

This is the complete list. If you find a cookie on scriplit.com that is not here, please tell us — we want to know.

4.1 Strictly necessary

Name Provider Purpose Duration Type
scriplit_consent Scriplit (first party) Stores your cookie preferences so we do not ask again and so we honour your choices on every page. 6 months Local storage
PHPSESSID Scriplit (first party) Maintains your session state across page loads. Set by PHP and deleted when you close the browser. Session HTTP cookie

4.2 Functionality — loaded only with your consent

Name Provider Purpose Duration Type
__tawkuuid tawk.to Identifies your device to the live chat service so a conversation can continue across pages and visits. 6 months HTTP cookie
TawkConnectionTime tawk.to Tracks the live chat connection session. Session HTTP cookie
twk_uuid_* tawk.to Stores chat widget state and message history for your session. 6 months Local storage
twk_idm_key tawk.to Session identifier for the chat widget. Session Local storage

4.3 Analytics — loaded only with your consent

Name Provider Purpose Duration Type
_ga Google Analytics Distinguishes one visitor from another so visit counts are accurate. 2 years HTTP cookie
_ga_* Google Analytics Maintains session state for a specific analytics property. 2 years HTTP cookie
_gid Google Analytics Distinguishes visitors over a 24-hour window. 24 hours HTTP cookie

Analytics cookies are listed because our consent banner offers the category. They are set only if you opt in, and only where an analytics property is active on the site.

4.4 Loaded without cookies

Some third-party resources are loaded from content delivery networks to make pages fast: Bootstrap and Bootstrap Icons from jsDelivr, Font Awesome from Cloudflare CDN, GSAP animation libraries, and Google Fonts. These do not set cookies, but the provider necessarily receives your IP address as part of serving the file. We consider this strictly necessary to deliver the page, and we self-host our core stylesheets and scripts to keep such requests to a minimum.

5. Third-Party Providers

Where a cookie is set by a third party, that company processes the data under its own privacy policy as well as our agreement with it:

  • tawk.to — live chat. Privacy policy
  • Google — analytics and fonts. Privacy policy
  • Cloudflare — icon delivery. Privacy policy
  • jsDelivr — open source library delivery. Privacy policy

Several of these are US-based, so consenting to their cookies may involve a transfer of data outside the EEA or UK. Section 9 of our Privacy Policy explains the safeguards that apply.

6. Managing Your Choices

The simplest way is the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page. It reopens the preference panel, shows what you chose last time, and lets you change any category.

Changes take effect immediately. If you withdraw consent for a category, we stop loading those scripts at once and clear the associated cookies where technically possible. Some third-party cookies must be cleared through your browser, and section 7 explains how.

Your preference is stored for six months, after which we will ask again. That way a decision you made long ago does not silently persist forever.

7. Controlling Cookies in Your Browser

Your browser gives you independent control over all cookies, including the strictly necessary ones. Blocking those will break parts of this and most other websites.

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

Most browsers also offer a private browsing mode that discards cookies when you close the window.

8. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track

We honour Global Privacy Control signals. If your browser or extension sends one, we treat it as a refusal of all non-essential cookies and do not display the banner asking again. You do not have to click anything.

We treat legacy Do Not Track headers the same way, even though no legally binding standard was ever settled for them.

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no additional opt-out to exercise. See section 8 of our Privacy Policy.

9. The Legal Basis for This

Our approach is designed to comply with:

  • Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, as amended, which requires prior informed consent before storing or accessing information on your device, except where strictly necessary to provide the service you requested.
  • The GDPR (EU) 2016/679 and UK GDPR, which set the standard for valid consent: freely given, specific, informed, unambiguous, and as easy to withdraw as to give.
  • The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 in the United Kingdom.
  • The CCPA as amended by the CPRA and other US state privacy laws, including the requirement to honour opt-out preference signals.

Consent is not required for strictly necessary cookies, which is why they are always active. Everything else waits for you.

10. Changes to This Policy

We update this Policy whenever we add, remove or change a cookie. The "Last updated" date reflects the current version.

If we introduce a new category of cookie, particularly anything advertising-related, we will re-request consent rather than rely on a choice you made about something different.

We use a few cookies

Strictly necessary cookies keep this site working and are always on. We would also like to use optional cookies for live chat and anonymous analytics, but only if you are happy with that. We do not use advertising cookies and we never sell your data. Read our Cookie Policy or Privacy Policy.

Cookie preferences

Choose which categories you are comfortable with. You can change this at any time from the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. Every cookie we set is listed individually in our Cookie Policy.

Global Privacy Control detected. Your browser is sending an opt-out signal, so we have automatically declined all optional cookies. You can still override this below if you want to.

Strictly necessary

Always active

Required for the site to function and to remember your cookie choices. No consent is needed for these under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive.

Functionality

Powers our live chat widget (tawk.to). Decline this and the site works normally, you just will not see live chat — phone, email and WhatsApp still work.

Analytics

Aggregate statistics about which pages are useful and where the site is confusing. Never used to identify you or build a profile.

Advertising

Not used

We do not run advertising or cross-site tracking cookies on this website, so there is nothing here to switch on.
